South African Equity Market (Monthly Report) - June 2015

The monthly All-share Index returned -3.7% in May after a 2.3% increase recorded in April 2015. Of the major JSE sectors, six recorded negative month-on-month returns while three had positive month-on-month returns. The much-reduced oil and gas sector (after the removal of Sasol from the index) fared the best with a 13.8% m/m return. Technology shares (1.9%) and consumer goods (0.5%) also showed positive returns. The worst performing sectors were Telecommunications (-9.7%), Healthcare (-5.7%) and Financials (-5.6%).
