Household real consumption expenditure (HCE), accounting for just more than 60% of gross domestic expenditure (GDE), registered negative growth during the first quarter of 2016 but improved to 2.2% (q/q annualised) in the second half of the year. However, this improvement could not be sustained, and HCE again shrank by 2.3% in the first quarter of 2017.
