The rand was considerably stronger against all currencies in December compared with the previous month. The unweighted average change in the value of the rand amounted to 9.3%. Month-on-month, the rand gained 11.8% against the Brazilian real, and was also considerably stronger against the yen (11%), the pound (10.9%0 and the dollar (10.4%). The rand also gained 9.9% again the Swiss franc and 8.9% against the euro.
