The rand weakened against all major developed and emerging market currencies in August 2018 compared with the previous month. The unweighted average change in the value of the rand amounted to -7.6%. Month-on-month, the rand depreciated most against the Swiss franc (-11.5%), Japanese yen (-10.3%) and US dollar (-9.6%). The rand was also weaker against the euro (-8.9%%), British pound (-8.4%) and Chinese yuan (-9.3%).
