The rand weakened against most major developed and emerging market currencies in February 2019 compared with the previous month. The unweighted average change in the value of the rand amounted to -1.9%. Month-on-month, the rand depreciated most against the Chinese yuan (-4.2%), Indian rupee (-3.3%), and US dollar (-3.2%). The rand also weakened against the Swiss franc (-2.4%), British pound (-2.4%) and euro (-2.1%). The rand gained marginally against the Japanese yen (0.4%).
