Compared with the previous month, the rand strengthened again in December 2019 against most emerging market and developed market currencies. The unweighted average change in the value of the rand amounted to 1.7%. Month-on-month, the rand appreciated most against the Japanese yen (2.8%), the Swiss franc (2.5%) and the US dollar (2.4%). Against the euro and British pound, the rand gained respectively 2% and 0.9%. The rand also gained 2.45 against Chinese yuan (-0.9%).
