South Africa Foreign Exchange Market — September 2020 Report

Compared with the previous month, the rand weakened in August 2020 against most developed market and developing market currencies. The unweighted average change in the value of the rand amounted to -3.3%. Month-on-month, the rand depreciated by 2.7% against the US dollar, by 6.1% against the British pound, by 3.4% against the Japanese yen, and by 5.8% against the euro. The rand lost 5.2% against the Swiss franc. The rand also weakened by 3% against the Chinese yuan, but was 1% stronger against the Brazilian real. The rand depreciated by 2.8% against the NZ dollar and by 5% against the Australian dollar.
