Compared with the previous month, the rand strengthened in December 2020 against nearly all major developed market and developing market currencies. The unweighted average change in the value of the rand amounted to 2%. Month-on-month, the rand appreciated by 4.3% against the US dollar, by 2.5% against the British pound, by 3.7% against the Japanese yen, and by 1.6% against the euro. The rand was 1.6% stronger against the Swiss franc and 3.4%, against the Chinese yuan. The rand appreciated by 0.8% against the both the NZ dollar and the Australian dollar.
