South Africa Foreign Exchange Market — October 2021 Report

Compared with the previous month, the rand remained generally stable in September 2021 against most developed market and developing market currencies. The unweighted average change in the value of the rand amounted to -0.1%. Month-on-month, the rand appreciated by 1.3% against the Brazilian real, by 1.2% against the Australian dollar, and by 1% against the Canadian dollar. The rand was also slightly stronger m/m against the Swiss franc (0.5%), Yuan (-0.4%), British pound (0.2%) and Euro (0.1%). The rand lost most against the Rupee and Rouble (-1.6%) and was also slightly weaker against the US Dollar (-0.2%) and Yen (-0.4%).
