Compared with the previous month, the rand generally strengthened in February 2022 against most major developed market and developing market currencies. The unweighted average change in the value of the rand amounted to 1.9%. Month-on-month, the rand appreciated most against the NZ dollar (3.5%) and Russian rouble (3.2%). The rand also gained against the US dollar (1.9%), euro (1.9%), UK pound (2.1%), Japanese yen (2.2%) and Swiss franc (2.1%). The rand was weaker against the Brazilian real (-4.3%).
