Compared with the previous month, the rand generally strengthened in April 2022 against most major developed market and developing market currencies. The unweighted average change in the value of the rand amounted to 1.4% (excluding the Russian rouble). Month-on-month, the rand appreciated most against the Japanese yen (7.2%), British pound (2.7%) and euro (2.5%). The rand also gained against the US dollar (0.8%), Swiss franc (1.2%) and Chinese yuan (2.1%). The rouble gained some 25.8% in April 2022 after its 45% depreciation against the rand in March.
