Compared with the previous month, the rand strengthened in June 2022 against most major developed market and developing market currencies. The unweighted average change in the value of the rand amounted to 1%. Month-on-month, the rand appreciated most against the Japanese yen (4.4%), Brazilian real (3.5%) and Indian rupee (2.3%). The rand also gained slightly against the euro (0.8%), Chinese yuan (1.2%), British pound (1.6%), and US dollar (1.3%). However, the rand did trade weaker against the Swiss franc (-0.8%) and the Russian rouble (-5.8%).
