Compared with the previous month, the rand weakened slightly in August 2022 against around half of the major developed market and developing market currencies. The unweighted average change in the value of the rand amounted to -0.4%. Month-on-month, the rand appreciated most against the euro (1.5%), Chinese yuan (1.6%), US dollar (0.6%), and British pound (0.5%). However, the rand lost against the Brazilian real (-3.5%), Russian rouble (-2.9%), Australian dollar (-1.3%), Japanese yen (-0.8%), and Swiss franc (-0.5%).
