Compared with the previous month, the rand weakened slightly in December 2022 against most of the major developed market and developing market currencies. The unweighted average change in the value of the rand amounted to -0.3%. Month-on-month, the rand depreciated most against the Japanese yen and NZ dollar (-3.8%), the British pound (-2.6%) and the euro (-2.4%). However, the rand strengthened against the US dollar (1.5%), Indian rupee (2.5%), and Russian rouble (6.2%).
